COBA EXCURSIONS
The impressive ruins of Coba, once the heart and largest settlement of the Yucatan Peninsula,
housed an estimated population of over 50,000 during its heyday until 200 BC.
As the oldest archaeological site on the peninsula, Coba continues to captivate with its mystical history.
Climbing the 42-meter-high pyramid rewards visitors with a breathtaking panorama of the verdant sea and dense jungle.
Coba, a relatively young archaeological site with limited excavations, spans about 2 km from the entrance to the pyramid.
Visitors have the option to explore the site on foot or by bicycle or be chauffeured in a “Triciclo,” a cargo tricycle, in the shade of tropical trees.
Strolling in Coba is pleasant as you are always in the shade; only when climbing the pyramid are you exposed to the sun.
Combining a visit to these ancient Mayan ruins hidden in the jungle with other excursions is possible.
Exploring a cenote for refreshment is also part of this adventure.
Status June 2023:
Since 2020, tourists are no longer permitted to climb the pyramid. However, negotiations are underway with the relevant authorities,
and it is expected that the restriction imposed during the pandemic will be lifted by 2023.
